For installation, operation and service for universal analyzers


! WARNING


This document lists the Safety basics for the handling, installation, operation and service for Universal products.

Please read this instruction carefully and comply with this in general.

Analyzers which are not installed and/or used in accordance with the information provided in this document and the “Operation Manual", "Application Manual" or other related instructions sent by Universal Instrument Inc., may not be safe, thereby giving cause to a risk of technical failure, of damage to installations and/or the environment, and /or hazards to persons.


INTRODUCTION 


Thank you for purchasing this high quality analytical instrument. The analyzer is designed for installation in industrial environments and intended for professional use.

On delivery the analyzer does not offer readily available end-user functionality. The analyzer needs to be installed and configured by competent staff prior to use by the end user. Information about the exact specifications, necessary connections, utilities and maintenance schedules is given in the accompanying  "Operation Manual", available upon request.


Please contact your supplier if you need a copy in specific language, or if the “Operation Manual” is not enclosed with the instrument.


GENERAL SAFETY


Universal Instrument Inc. and /or its affiliates use their best efforts to deliver a high quality analytical instrument and reliable software packages. Universal Instrument, Inc. nor its affiliates cannot he held responsible for any damage that may result from the incorrect use of the software and hardware, use outside the scope of the analyzer's specification, misinterpretation of the safety instructions, errors or deliberate modifications made to the analyzer; in addition, any warranty issued by Universal Instrument Inc. becomes void.


  • Knowledge of the basic safety regulations is essential for the safe handling and disruption-free operation of the unit. Therefore, please read the entire manual before setting up the analyzer. Pay attention to danger and caution statements.

  • All persons working on the unit should take note of these safety instructions;

  • Protect the analyzer from impacts causing corrosion or preventing components from working properly;

  • Have faulty parts of the analyzer replaced immediately;

  • Spare parts must comply with the ethnical requirements determined by Universal Instrument, Inc.

  • When malfunctioning, take the analyzer of operation. Repair the malfunctions immediately. Failure to do so could result in serious injury to persons or damage to the equipment;

  • On top of this, all rules and regulations pertinent o accident prevention, which are applicable at the measuring site, are to be followed.


! NOTICE


It is essential to get acquainted with the hereinafter mentioned hazard/safety signs used in all of the related user’s and installation manuals.



Handling, shipment and storage


The analyzer is a high precision analytical instrument and therefore requires special handling in order to ensure proper operation. Mishandling may cause permanent damage to the analyzer.


  • Some series of Universal Instrument, Inc. ‘s analyzers have a weight or form that requires packaging giving cause the need for special precautions to avoid injuries or accidents when lifting or transporting the units; always comply with your company regulations on safe working practices.

  • Keep Universal Instrument, Inc. ‘s analyzers stored in their packaging until installation; treat the units with care, and avoid shocks and vibrations. Store in a dry place (RH 5…80%) and at reasonable ambient temperature (+5℃ + 50℃).

  • Reagents, if delivered with the analyzer, should be stored immediately in a cool, dark and dry place. 


! NOTICE


Some types of analyzer systems, such as those systems integrated in a protective shelter or cabinet can be stored in more extreme conditions. In any case, when the analyzer needs to be stored in a location under conditions that are likely to fall outside the above limits, please always consult the “Operation Manual” and verify the possibility.


Installation and commissioning


Information for system integrators and technical staff.


For installation and commissioning, the following issues need specific attention:

  • The analyzer  must be installed solely in situations and for purposes which comply with the analyzer’s general specifications and certificates, and must be installed and commissioned in accordance with the instructions given in the relevant user’s manual;

  • When unpacking the analyzer verify that it meets the specific needs, is complete, and remains undamaged (visual inspection). A damaged analyzer must not be installed nor commissioned;

  • Safety gear must be worn when working with chemical products during commissioning, operation and maintenance of the analyzer in order to avoid hazards or even injury to persons;

  • After installation/commissioning make sure that the end-user receives information about the specific functionality for the application and analyzer’s setting;

  • On the release of the analyzer’s functionality to the end-use for operations make sure that the end-user is also issued this document, all other specific documents accompanying the analyzer, relevant information about the installation/commissioning of the analyzer and any information, where relevant, about interactions with other systems or equipment.



Operation


Information for operators, end-users and technical staff.


For a proper operation, the following issues need specific attention:

  • All persons who are to use the analyzer must be thoroughly (as outlined in the application manual), the enabled functionality and ,where relevant, any operational risks;

  • Safety gear must be worn when working with chemical products during commissioning, operation and maintenance of the analyzer in order to avoid hazards or even injury to persons;

  • Users must contact their system integrator or supplier when the analyzer does not meet expectations.


! NOTICE


It is the responsibility of the operator or operation manager to allow only those persons to work on the unit who are familiar with the regulations concerning safe handling and who have been informed how to work with the analyzer.


Service and maintenance


Information for operators, service and end-users.


For servicing and maintenance, the following issues need specific attention:

  • Instruments must be serviced solely by authorized and competent personnel. Safe working practices/regulations must be observed at all times;

  • Safety gear must be worn when working with chemical products during commissioning, operation and maintenance of the analyzer in order to avoid hazards or even injury to persons;

  • All modifications or replacement of parts must be carried out by trained and authorized distributor staff or any appointed representative partner. Failure to comply with this requirement voids all certification or acceptance tests;

  • Verify that subsequent to replacement/repairs the specific settings for the application(can be) restored and that the analyzer will continue to perform in the customary manned. When this is not possible the end-user must be informed of any changes;

  • When decommissioning the analyzer, make sure that it does not contain any hazardous process residues nor any reagent (where applicable). Dispose of products in accordance with the local legislation and /or company regulations;

  • When contacting Universal Instrument Inc. or any local authorized agents/distributors or any representative partner always state the following information.
